Urban Landscape – Downtown Los Angeles #DTLA

There is a plethora of beauty and color all around us waiting to be captured, that’s if we were just aware.  Here I was, in the middle of downtown Los Angeles where most people perceive that it’s gloomy, desolate, crime ridden, full of homeless folks and not to mention “the gangs”.  Well, nothing could be further that the truth with it’s resurgence of development, and even GQ Magazine calls it “America’s Next Great City”.

As a mid-westerner, my only exposure before my immersion was, as you guessed, on mainstream media.  That perception changed 180 degrees as soon as I was invited by a friend who lives in #DTLA (Downtown LA) while going to school at FIDM Fashion Institute.  I, now live in the Chicago suburb of Naperville but spent majority of my life in the near north-side of Chicago.  The sounds, the smell and the mix of people brought back memories of urban life I grew to like and appreciate,  I know it’s not for everyone but it was clear to me now that I want to be in the middle of this hustle and bustle.

The Fuji X-E2 camera is always in my bag with a Fujinon 40mm f2.8 pancake, Fujinon 18-55 f2.8-4 and the Fujinon 14mm f2.8 lenses.  I find this combination versatile enough for street, architecture and landscape photography in the urban setting.

The 16megapixel X-trans CMOS II sensor paired with a fast processor with JPEG engine second to none is one of the best cameras in the entire industry. These colors are the different film simulations that the Fuji camera and it’s siblings are offering in the camera’s internal RAW converter. The X-Trans sensor cameras feature five different color film modes, named after famous analog slide and negative FUJIFILM brands: Provia, Astia, Velvia, Pro Neg. Std and Pro Neg.  I love the low light and dynamic range the files produce.  Take it for a test drive and you will get hooked.

This has replaced my Nikon D800 as my travel….heck it replaced all my DSLR’s period.
